Administrative Law

Administrative law is the body of law that governs the activities of administrative agencies of government. Government agency action can include rulemaking, adjudication, or the enforcement of a specific regulatory agenda.

Consumer Law

Consumer protection law or consumer law is considered an area of law that regulates private law relationships between individual consumers and the businesses that sell those goods and services. Consumer protection covers a wide range of topics, including but not necessarily limited to product liability, privacy rights, unfair business practices, fraud, misrepresentation, and other consumer/business interactions.

Criminal Law

Criminal law or Penal law is the body of law that relates to crime. It regulates social conduct and proscribes whatever is threatening, harmful, or otherwise endangering to the property, health, safety, and moral welfare of people. It includes the punishment of people who violate these laws. Criminal law varies according to jurisdiction, and differs from civil law, where emphasis is more on dispute resolution and victim compensation than on punishment.

Civil Litigation

The conduct of a non-criminal matter in a court of law from initial advice to client(s) through to the enforcement of judgment. It encompasses not just the representations made in Court but also the pre-trial procedures including interlocutory hearings, and the post-trial procedures such as costs and enforcement of a judgment.

Family Law

Family law (also called matrimonial law) is an area of the law that deals with family matters and domestic relations, including: marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships; adoption and surrogacy; child abuse and child abduction; the termination of relationships and ancillary matters, including divorce, annulment, property settlements, alimony, child custody and visitation, child support and alimony awards; juvenile adjudication; paternity testing and paternity fraud.

Wills and Probate Law

The granting of probate is the first step in the legal process of administering the estate of a deceased person, resolving all claims and distributing the deceased person's property under a will. A probate court decides the legal validity of a testator's (person's) will and grants its approval, also known as granting probate, to the executor. The probated will then becomes a legal instrument that may be enforced by the executor in the law courts if necessary. A probate also officially appoints the executor (or personal representative), generally named in the will, as having legal power to dispose of the testator's assets in the manner specified in the testator's will. However, through the probate process, a will may be contested.

About Us

The Law Firm of Robert A. Ades & Associates, P.C. is a professional corporation licensed in the District of Columbia which also operates as a foreign corporation doing business in the State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Ades Firm was founded by the late Robert A. Ades in December 1978. The Ades Firm has grown from one office in Washington, DC to include principle offices in Landover, MD and Springfield, VA. The Ades Firm was established for the sole purpose of providing competent legal services exclusively to members of organized labor.

This objective has not changed in the past thirty-eight years. Through the effort and earnest negotiations of union leaders and employers, local union members and their families have received representation from the Ades Firm in all sorts of legal matters that otherwise may not have been obtainable. Over the past three decades the Ades Firm has successfully provided legal repsentation to thousands of union members and their dependents. Only in rare cases has the Ades Firm represented private or non-union individuals and nine times out of ten in those cases the individual had some connection or affiliation with organized labor.
